“Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow.”

-Carrie Fisher

Happy New Year, Hidden Valley community! It is hard to believe that 2016 has ended. I am excited for a new beginning and look forward to continuing our successes here at Hidden Valley Elementary.

We managed to fit quite a bit into the short month of December. Principal Gorton and Vice Principal Lanfranki Law hosted a Parent Forum where parents asked relevant questions and had the opportunity to talk with them. Thank you for hosting two of these a year. The opportunity to discuss important topics in a forum setting is a nice addition to our wonderful Hidden Valley Way.

Our See’s Candy fundraiser numbers aren’t in yet so keep an eye out for results. Our goal is $8,900. We give 8% of the profit to Student Council. Thank you to all who participated, purchased, and volunteered time. A very BIG thank you to Amanda Moses for managing this fundraiser. Your tireless efforts and dedication are greatly appreciated!

Our Scholastic Book Fair earned just over $2,000 for the library! Again, thank you, Amanda Moses for running the Book Fair and thank you to all who patronized and/or volunteered your time. It is because of you this fundraiser is a success.

The Craft and Vendor Faire was also a success. I heard talk of trying to make this a bigger community event and I saw smiles on the faces of the sellers and buyers. The buzz in the room was infectious. From unique handmade items to name brand clothing, and pictures with Santa, this event brought our community together. Amanda Quatacker and Kim Williams are the reason this was possible. Thank you to you and your team of volunteers. Thank you to the crafters and vendors for sharing your products with us. Thank you to our community for supporting the efforts of everyone involved.

To give us a break from the holiday hustle and bustle, Tracey Rentner coordinated a White Elephant Bingo Night. There were fun and interesting prizes. Thank you to those who attended and to you, Tracey!

We began our break with Dining for Dollars at Kinders. Remember to turn in your receipt in the office to be entered into the drawing. Thank you to all who ate out and helped us raise money for our school! And thank you, Kayo Alencastre for scheduling this and a variety of restaurants for us to choose from!

To complement our busy December, January will be a rather slow month. Whew! There are behind the scenes preparations happening for our Annual Dinner Auction and information for our Spell-A-Thon will go home soon. We also have Missoula Children’s Theater coming soon and we need a family to host a director. Please contact Michelle Arnold at michellevarnold@gmail.com for more information.

I will see you at our PFC meeting on Tuesday, January 3rd at 7pm in the Library. Thanks to this amazing community for a spectacular year and welcome to 2017!
