The Scholastic Book Fair continues this week in A-Pod, with hours before, during and after school. Every purchase at the Book Fair helps raise money for the Hidden Valley Library.

Thank you to all the parents and students who have volunteered to work at the Book Fair. Shifts are still open! Sign up here: Book Fair Sign-Ups

The next Box Tops collection will be Friday, 12/16.

Also, you can now download the new Box Tops Bonus App to discover brands and retailers offering bonus Box Tops.  It’s simple: just download the app from your app store, login with your Box Tops login and password (or sign up if you don’t have one, make sure you choose Hidden Valley Elementary as your school to send the Bonus Box Tops to).   The offers will be listed, select the offer and then scan your receipt.  Your receipt will be processed and your Bonus Box Tops will be added to our earnings! Thank you to those that participated in the last Dining for Dollars event at The Habit.  I will draw a winner on Friday, so you still have time to bring your receipts into the office to be entered into a drawing for a gift card.

The next Dining for Dollars will be on Friday 12/16 through Sunday 12/18 at Kinder’s Meats located at 536 Center Ave in Martinez.  Please download the flier here and bring it with you when purchasing your meal, so that Hidden Valley will receive credit for your purchase.  Don’t have access to a flier?  Extras will be located in the office or look for fliers to be passed out on Friday morning before and after school at various locations on campus.

Also bring your receipt into the school office and put into the Dining for Dollars box with your name, your child’s name, your child’s teacher and a phone number to be entered into a drawing to win a $10 gift card.

A drawing will be done at the end of the year with all the receipts turned in this school year for a four pack of movie passes.  The more receipts you turn in the more chances you will have to win.  Questions?  Email Kayo at

Dear Hidden Valley Parents & Guardians,

It’s hard to believe we’re already into December. In just two weeks we will be ready to turn our school calendars to 2017 to start the New Year. December always includes fun events. The Book Fair will be in the A Pod until Friday, 12/9, and the White Elephant Bingo Night will take place in the multipurpose room on Friday, 12/9 starting at 7:00 pm.

Of course December also means it is time for parent/teacher conferences, which will be held from 12/5-12/16. If you have not signed up for a conference, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible to set one up. This is a critical opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher one-on-one to learn more about how your child is progressing, and what you can do at home to support your child in school.

We will be on a shortened day during conferences, so please be sure to plan for the early dismissal times. I’ve included a link to the Hidden Valley Website if you need to see when dismissal times will be during conferences.

We are fortunate to have some great computer programs that we use at school, and are available to use at home. Children can use both iReady and IXL to help retain and advance their knowledge and skills in language arts and math. Winter break will be an ideal time for your child to sharpen his/her academic skills. You can access both programs on our school website, at, (see the Homepage Locker in the lower right hand corner of the screen) or by using the links below:

Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the programs, or need any assistance logging in.

As a reminder, please be aware that the two parking lots in front of the school are for staff parking only. It causes stress, and creates potential safety issues when a staff member is unable to find parking in one of the parking lots. We ask that all parents/guardians please park on the street or at the park behind the school.

I would like to thank you for entrusting us with your child(ren). It is our pleasure and privilege to teach and spend time with them each day.

Dear Hidden Valley Community,

While November was a short month for us academically, we still managed to get quite a bit done. Kayo Alencastre kindly scheduled 2 dining for dollars this month. Thanks for suggesting 2 nights off so we can focus on Holiday preparations!

Our Fifth Graders went to camp! I heard it was great weather and our students had a great time. What an amazing experience for them. Thank you to our amazing community and fifth grade parents for making this opportunity a reality for them.

As we left for our Thanksgiving break, See’s Candy order forms went home. Orders and funds were due back when we returned on Monday, November 30th. Distribution is set for the week of December 10th. Thank you for your continued support.

December is also a short academic month:

  • Conferences are scheduled Dec 5th-16th so we have an early dismissal for those 2 weeks.

  • Our monthly PFC meeting in the Library at 7pm on Tuesday, December 6th.

  • The Book Fair begins on Friday, December 2nd in the A-pod. There are still volunteer opportunities available.

  • Shop at our Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, December 3rd from 10am-3pm in the Multi-use Room.

  • On December 5th, Principal Gorton and Vice Principal Lanfranki Law are hosting a Parent Forum in the Multi-use Room at 8:20am-9:30am. I hope to see many of our community members there.

  • Take a break from the Holiday rush and join us for a White Elephant Bingo Night in Multi-use room on Friday, December 9th at 6:30pm.

As we wrap up 2016, I want to thank everyone for everything you do. The PFC couldn’t run without an amazingly supportive community. From volunteers to fundraiser participants, we are thankful for you all.

Happy Holidays,

Angie Vickroy (
