There will be at least two School Site Council (SSC) positions open for parents for the 2016-17 school year. SSC is a committee made up of parents, teachers, and school staff (including the principal), that makes decisions about how the school’s funding is spent. It is very important that we have parents to serve in these positions. Voting for School Site Council Members will be held at Open House on May 19. Please contact Principal Gorton at email@example.com for more information if you are interested in serving on the SSC.

A message from the Hidden Valley office:
Student Information Forms will be available in the school office starting Monday, May 2nd. These are due no later than Friday, May 13th. This form is used to describe the learning environment you feel is most beneficial to your student. It is not a teacher request form.
The teaching team for the student’s current grade level will use these forms to help determine the classes for the next grade level. This is an opportunity to give your input regarding the placement for your student. You do not have to fill these out, they are strictly optional.
Please return these to Kathy’s (office manager) mail box. She will be collecting them and passing them on to Mr. Gorton for review.

Parent School Climate Survey, 2015-2016
- Hidden Valley Elementary
- Your school needs you to complete this online survey to help improve school culture and climate. It is an opportunity to communicate your perceptions about fundamental learning supports and barriers at this school. This letter explains the survey and, at the bottom of the page, provides your login, password and access instructions. If you have any questions about this survey, contact Jeff McCreary at (925) 682-8000, ext. 7210 or Rich Gorton at (925) 228-9530.
- You will have access to this online survey for 30 days beginning 04/05/16.
The purpose of this survey is to obtain parent perceptions of student behavior and attitudes, school programs and policies, and the overall school climate as they relate to student well-being and learning. It deals with such issues as truancy, safety, harassment, substance use, school connectedness, and learning supports. The survey is a companion to the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), and the California School Climate Survey (CSCS) for staff.
Your participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information you provide will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, improve student achievement, and reduce health risks that stand as barriers to learning.
- This is an anonymous survey. It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data. You do not have to respond to any questions that you feel could be used to identify you. Simply skip any such questions.
- All questions apply to this school only.
- The results are for the use of your district. CDE/CHKS will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.”
Well, the end of this school year sure is flying by. Our last fundraiser of the year has come to an end. Very preliminary numbers point to the Online Auction meeting our goal of $10,000! A more accurate number will be reported at our PFC meeting on Tuesday, May 3rd. Jessica English has done a spectacular job managing this fundraiser! Thank you, Jessica! There were many behind the scenes duties that were done to ensure the success of it. Rhea Karahalios took on many of them. Thank you, Rhea! All of our teachers and staff, room parents, volunteers, donors, and bidders dedicated time to support our PFC, who, in turn supports our students. We are forever grateful! Thank you to our amazing Hidden Valley community!
Our PFC meeting in April was well attended. It was great to have a large voting population. The PFC voted and granted a funding request for P.E./Classroom Boom boxes for the Kindergarten classes. A representative from The College Funding Coach attended the meeting and invited us to their workshop on our campus which occurred on April 19th. (Mutual consensus of that workshop was that it was hugely informative.) We discussed our Spring Book Fair dates which are: May 16-20. We heard from our Spirt Wear nominee who is securing a new Spirt Wear company and new process for purchasing Spirit Wear next school year. We planned an end of year family movie night for Friday, June 3rd. At the time we needed additional nominees for our PFC Board and Committees but today I am happy to report, all positions have a nominee!
Teacher appreciation week is May 2nd-6th. Let’s be sure to show them how much we appreciate them. Open house is on May 19th. Please, come by the patio and vote for your 2016-2017 PFC Board and Committee Chairs. Visit our Spring Book Fair from May 16-20th. Proceeds go to our Reading Incentive Program. The PFC meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd in the Library at 6:30pm. It is starting slightly earlier to allow time for our first budget meeting to follow. We will discuss results of our online auction, form our election committee, plans for All-In-One Day, and begin our budgeting. I look forward to seeing you all the meeting. You can reach us on our webpage: HVPFC.com. Or on our Facebook page: Parent Faculty Club at Hidden Valley Elementary.
